After waiting over a year for a referral to be followed up and having to complete a second self-referral and another five month wait I was told to contact another service and join another waiting list that would be at least six months. This is a service that is meant to support people when they are going through their darkest times, but doesn't seem to give any regard to peoples mental health and well-being.

Well, it's been a long time since I tried this service. So I thought about to leave a comment regarding on my experience using this service to provide some info for those who might need it. So I've known mindsmatter through the introduction of my GP. I was in a serious crisis and was in a verge of suicide, but i guess they really didn't had the resource for me (or simply thought that my case wasn't severe enough) I booked an appointment through website, and it took about 4 month for them to call me back. The man who was holding the line told me he's a psychiatrist who can provide CBT and such, and he asked me do complete a questionnaire to evaluate my severity before cutting the phone off. After finishing the questionnaire and answered some question through phone, I was called again I think a day later? (can't exactly remember now XD) This time I was a the street, completely unprepared that he requires me to describe my situation. So yeah, I talked about everything, my childhood trauma, the long term abuse I experience, out in the public, coz if I refused to, I'd probably have to endure another year in depression without any help. While I was talking, he periodically responded me with solution he thinks that's 'helpful', which is not quite possible for me emotionally and physically. After I finished my description, the 'psychiatrist' talked about what kind of therapy he can provide, and asked me to decide whether I want to start the plan for the session. I was contemplating for a few minutes, and the time was ticking towards 15pm. Then the guy suddenly asked: "miss, have I offended you in some way?", which I replied "waht??" in confusion. him:"why are you wasting my time so much, I really want to leave now because it's my lunch break." ... It was literally what he said, with no exaggeration :'D I was in an extreme distress, I was suffering from shame of talking about all my privacy to a "psychiatrist" over the phone out in public, and I was considering my choice seriously as I didn't find myself in a better mental state after talking about my problems with this 'psychiatrist'. And there he was, just striking me with a "why you wasting ma time, I wanna go break time". My mood that day went from: 'fine' to 'I want to jump Infront of the train immediately '. Well, thank you mister! that was the exact thing that I needed, the last push of determination of ending it all! XD ok now, jokes aside. If you're a person searching for help then please get away from garbage, getting through it alone would be a much better option than trying it out. And I hope the GPs can stop recommending this service to the people that are already mentally and emotionally vulnerable, as this service can make them deteriorate further... and sorry for writing such a long rubbish, hope it helps you!

Useless service and so are the staff. Book you in for appointments then when they don’t call and you ring up they try to fob you off and make out like you never booked an appointment

I have been suggested by my GP to contact mindmatter, so I did this self referral over online. They have contacted me just to say they are extremely busy and offered me to contact with some charity group. The charity group contacted me once, so basically person with a suiside thought are left on their own.

I self referred after years of anxiety I waited for CBT therapy and got over the phone appointments after my 7th session thing's started to get better but I struggled. Then my dog died before my 8th session I phoned to cancel because I really didn't feel like talking. I was told that someone would ring me to rearrange this never happened. I was then sent a letter to say I was discharged due to missing the appointment. Unfortunately there is not much help for mental health on the NHS something needs to change.

Awful experience. Was with them from Oct 2021 - Jan 2022. I have CPTSD and care was shocking. Was told I was too traumatised and they couldn't do anything so instead of passing me to some other form of help they discharged me! I begged for a diagnosis so I could more easily get some support going forward but was bullied out of it by the START team. Was told I was emotionally abusing my partner because I had depressive symptoms, and was overall just told to take deep breaths to cure my trauma. Absolute joke.
