The services from here are absolutely amazing and I’ve had some life changing counselling sessions from a counsellor who was so professional and lovely. I’m by no means cured after only 12 sessions but I am on my way to recovery after being Ill for most of my 20s. I’ve struggled with anxiety, depression, agoraphobia and more lovely mental health conditions which caused a cocktail of issues. Before, I was completely unfunctionable and received no help from the NHS. Prior to me self referring to Mind, I received NHS “therapy” (I use that term lightly) which never allowed me to talk, gain feedback or receive compassion. I was told to do a few tasks a weeks and was discharged for being “cured” - When in reality I was too depressed to do the sessions so they didn’t report my bad mood scores. However with this type of therapy at Mind, it is PROPER therapy. You will gain feedback, compassion and it was refreshing to feel like you’re talking to a real human being. Most of all, real human being with empathy and compassion (Which most who work under the NHS mental health services lack). I’ve even been ignored while I was suicidal. There was a time an ambulance wouldn’t even arrive when I was in danger. So with the shambles of the NHS, Mind is truly a godsend. After a hellish 7 years I feel like I’m finally going to get my life back, especially with the advice from my last counselling session. So thank you so much.

Brilliant charity that offers support to people struggling with their mental health as well as those wanting to be proactive in preventing mental health problems. Open to anyone who lives in St Albans or the surrounding areas. They also have centres in Hertford and Stevenage. The charity offers a whole host of services and support - counseling, therapies and groups (like music and art). Everything is run by trained professionals and volunteers and is all free or very affordable. They are also always looking for volunteers and people who cab fundraise for their important work so please do help if you can.
