Owned by English Heritage - and run by Gravesham Council - Milton Chantry is the remains of a late 14th century place of worship and hospital. The Chantry is located in one corner of the New Tavern Fort and once formed part of it's garrison accommodation, along with even being a tavern at one time. Little is visible of the original building from the inside, but once inside the 14th century architecture is more visible. The Chantry is open to the public on weekends from April to September from 12pm to 5pm 9entry free). Inside there is an exhibition of the Chantry and Gravesend's history, along with a small collection of artefacts from a Roman temple at Springhead. Entry is free, and there is a brief audio guide to the chantry's history. In addition there is a small shop. For refreshments, there is a café in the nearby park.

Lovely place with some fascinating history. Highly recommend spending an hour here. Free to look round. Very kind and welcoming volunteers too. Could do with more signage on how to get there.

This is the oldest building in Gravesend. It used to be place to pray but this was stopped during the reign of Henry VIII and it was turned into a pub. Now it is an excellent museum. It's worth the visit. I learnt a great deal about the history of Gravesend and the surrounding area.
