We found Miller Metcalfe Bury to be dishonest and misleading with their handling of our original house purchase. The listing first stated the house had 3 bedrooms. This wasn’t true and it has since been listed with another estate agent as a 2 bedroom property. They also stated in their initial advert that the house had a garden. At the time there was no garden owned by the house, our solicitor also confirmed the purchase paperwork for the land had not been submitted at that time. Upon speaking with the manager about this they stated they were under no obligation to tell their letting agent who showed us around the property this [important] detail. We were assured the garden purchase was underway. 2 months later as the process dragged on we went up to speak to the neighbours who assured us that only ‘half’ of the garden shown on the advert pictures was being purchased. Miller Metcalfe denied all knowledge of this and the deal eventually fell through as we realised we’d been lied too. They also insisted they’d done nothing wrong although, funnily enough, once the property went back on the market a week later they took out the part about the house having a garden. We ended buying a different property with a more ethical estate agent but we lost a lot of money on our house sale due to wasting 3 months of time with Miller Metcalfe. I would advise against using this estate agent who didn’t even compensate us for the issues listed above which break their policy standards and code of ethics. Update - we finally took this up with the Property Redress Scheme who found that Miller Metcalfe Bury had been misleading in their dealings with us and ordered them to pay compensation. We’re grateful to the PRS for their help and support with this and hope it will deter MMB from putting other customers through the same treatment in the future.
