On Saturday 28th May I had the pleasure of attending the graduate showcase of the Millennium Arts final year students. Also performing were The Jazz Core company, comprising of original and continuing Millennium Arts students. The Rudolf Steiner theatre is a gorgeous, intimate venue that was perfectly suited to the evenings performance. Even from the back of the auditorium I had a great view of the performers and could really see their emotions and expressions. The simple, and in the case of The Night Mail piece in particular, very clever staging allowed the performers to stand out and not be burdened with too many set changes and faffing with stage furniture! All the performers had amazing energy and commitment which, considering this was their second performance of the day, lasted right up until the end. In Act One there were two notable stand outs for me. Laura Gronek’s performance of “Everybody Loves Louis” from Sunday In the Park with George captured the humour and sadness of George’s long suffering model, Dot, comparing her current beau to George, absolutely spot on. The second was the contemporary piece Nobius Angelus to the beautiful Dona Nobis Pacem 2 by Max Richter. The choreography was powerful and very moving. Christina Chinchilla’s performance in particular was outstanding. The Jazz Core Company took the spotlight for the first part of the second half. This group of previous (and two current) Millennium Arts students showcased six pieces, each exploring the jazz form in completely different ways. All were slickly choreographed and expertly performed. The performers were all very talented but Nicole Campbell-Watson and Tobias Richards shone whenever they were on stage, their fluidity and grace was simply beautiful. A great evenings entertainment and I hope all these incredibly talented performers go on to do amazing things!

Our Son has only been at MPA for 4 weeks and we are impressed with his great improvement already. He has learnt so much from Ikky and all the staff and with the very small groups it gives the students so much individual attention, Ikky is very welcoming. Our son is looking forward to the rest of his course.
