Please do not rent a property with Miles Commercial as the landlord / property manager!! I was unfortunately the tenant of one of their properties and had several poor experiences: 1. Manipulated us when trying to leave the tenancy - we were told originally when making an offer for the letting that we would be able to give approximately 4-6 weeks notice to vacate (something we emphasised we needed as we knew we would likely be needing to relocate before the tenancy finished). In practice when we gave this notice, they told us we could only vacate if we paid the whole 12 month tenancy in full. After finally arguing that this wasn't what was said on the contract they agreed to relet the property to new tenants with us paying until the property was relet. However, they listed the property at a way above rent market value for the area and put no effort into listing the property on the market, with out of date information and poor property descriptions on the advert. This resulted in 0 new tenants being interested in renting the property so that we would have to continue paying the rent for months after we left the property. Only once out tenancy period was up did they immediately lower the rent price and put effort into properly marketing it to attract new tenants. We felt very manipulated by this. 2. Issues wouldn't be fixed adequately or promptly and Miles Commercial would send shoddy unprofessional workmen who often wouldn't turn to patch things up rather than fix them, requiring multiple visits for serious issues (we had mould on the ceiling for several months). 3. Was lied to several times about issues being resolved. They would then try and find a way of manipulating the tenancy contract wording to make us liable for these issues. For example, when we complained about pest issues in the property we were promised that a visit from a pest control service was scheduled. After the pest control service didn't arrive, we were told actually this was never scheduled and that we were liable for these issues and must pay for them, despite the fact that pests were present in the property from when we moved in. I highly recommend you do NOT rent a property with Miles Commercial as the landlord!!!

Richard Duffus, Associate Director at Miles Commercial, was the managing agent of a residential building in Barkston Gardens comprising bedsits and self-contained flats, where I was a tenant. Shortly before Christmas 2017, all 3 showers in the building used by bedsit occupants were defective (out of order) for about 2 weeks. Richard was made aware of this issue from the outset, and was constantly reminded of it. He was also made aware of a missing toilet seat in one of the shared toilets about 6 weeks prior to when it was finally replaced. In June 2018, several long slabs of Rockwool insulation suddenly appeared on one of the landings in the building - they were only there for 5 days, because the Council was contacted about them without any delay (do a search for the health hazards of Rockwool). These are just some examples of Richard Duffus's property management skills.
