I ordered a Barlow knife in mid-January. The process of ordering was easy and I received a confirmation of my order. The website says the lead time for custom items is 4 to 6 weeks. I received an email confirming the order was ready for dispatch and it arrived seven weeks and a day after the initial confirmation email. This isn't a quibble, just a statement of fact - I appreciate craftmanship takes time and everyone has a life with other demands on their time. The knife is exactly what I requested. It is beautiful and very well made. It is a handmade tool and I can feel and see the care and craft that has gone into making it. I will cherish and use it and eventually pass it on. The cost to me of purchasing a custom made item was also very reasonable. Based on my experience, I recommend Michael May without hesitation as a knife maker.

Have ordered several knives from Michael and the quality and attention to detail is excellent. While all reviewers are entitled to review I would just note the lead time on each knife done custom is stated when you buy. It is a custom knife not a local REI purchase … frankly I don’t want the quality rushed and the quality is superb and unique! I do think the email system could maybe be smoother with acknowledging order receipt (I often have to follow up or check my credit card to be sure it went through) ; and if there is a delay it is good to notify people, but I’m fine with the order time stated up front. Good to see such skills carried on. Happy customer

We ordered a bushcraft knife, which is absolutely fantastic. The quality and craftsmanship of the knife are absolutely first class and the leather sheath is also very well made. The lead time was very long and there was no pro-active communication as to build progress, although they did answer my emails promptly, hence 4 stars rather than 5.
