Very impressive, listed grade I castle with beautiful statures! It can be seen through the woods and across the field from the distance. It has been rebuilt by an architect Colin Campbell as a replica of Palladio's villa for Paolo Amerigo near Vicenza in around 1723. The garden around the house seems to be looked after on regular bases. Since 1976, Mereworth Castle is owned by Mahdi Al-Tajir, the former United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United Kingdom and owner of the Highland Spring bottled water company, who purchased it for $1.2 million. It is not generally accessible to the public and used to be open on rare occasions for guided tours in the near past, but it is all covered in scaffolding at the moment and temporary closed.
