I've been going to this branch of Mei Quan for about five years since around 2018, and it's definitely one of the highlights of my week - really sets me up nicely for rest of week. Informative, experienced , generous and fun teacher in Derek who really goes into the meaning and philosophy behind Tai Chi and also gets is to think about the applications of the different moves. Really friendly atmosphere too and it's perfect if you're new to Tai Chi as everyone makes you feel very welcome, also easy to get to with good bus and tube (Mornington Crescent) links. I really love the chance to practise the Broadsword form too, makes me feel like a powerful warrior! Highly recommended.👌🏽

The Qi Gong class is wonderful. Derek Pearce is a great teacher, patient and generous with explanations. The cherry on the cake is the carefully curated music, on top of the well know benefits of active meditation, greater body awareness, greater coordination, better breathing, etc.

Started in 2018 and coming ever since. Tai chi teaches you how to move with grace but purpose, subtly strengthens your body and brings peace into your life! Couldn’t recommend enough. Great classes.

This is a class where you will get to understand more about your body but also yourself after several sessions. I have attended this class for few years now and I am every time I learn something new and I notice the progress I am making as years go by. Each of the 4 classes offered bring something. To benefit the most, you need to be actively present (ie not thinking about something else, although it may happen at the beginning) Derek is extremely knowledgeable and bring life to the classes. He will also challenge you both mentally and physically at times and helps you deepen your thinking.. The venue is also great and help welcome many students without the feeling of being overcrowded. The Bonus is teabreak where you get to chat with other students. Highly recommend trying out both qigong and taichi to start with.

This is a wonderful class, ranging from gentle and meditative to fun challenging and very active. The teacher, Derek Pearce, is passionate about the martial arts he is instructing and is very thoughtful about how to convey information to people of very different ages, experience and ability. The students are welcoming and friendly to new comers.

Great location very close to Chalk Farm tube station with easy to find venue. Open and welcoming atmosphere and people in the class. Easy to start as a beginner because exercises are for all levels and new people are being smoothly integrated into the classes. The teabreak in between classes offers a great opportunity to chat with fellow students and ask questions.

I joined this great group in January 2020 and I was really pleased with the choice that I made . Within my immediate area there were many options but I choose Mei Quan . I particularly liked the idea that it was a local group but part of a bigger organisation , Mei Quan has a great web site and lots of additional benefits but the branch seems very integrated in the community .The tube and bus stops are 100 meters away from the hall which is great . The facilities are clean and well organised . The atmosphere for my first session was friendly and supportive . Everyone in the group is aware that a beginners journey to learning is different and this is respected . I have now been coming for 30 months and still ii really enjoy the open and welcoming atmosphere . When ever a new person joins they are welcomed and looked after by the friendly members of the group . There is a tea break between sessions which reinforces the friendly feeling . Finally I have to say that Derek , our instructor , is brilliant . He has so much knowledge and he passes this on in a very supportive way . Thank you Mei Quan Tai Chi .

I love this class! Derek is hugely knowledgeable with a very natural style that comes from many years of teaching, and the group is fun and welcoming. If you really enter into the spirit of Tai Chi offered here the potential for learning is endless. There's beautiful and powerful Qi Gong and Tai Chi forms taught alongside authentic martial applications and I particularly love the early evening sabre sword class. In order to get the most out of this training you'll need to be a patient soul as it takes a bit of time and commitment to build the skills but once you start to incorporate a daily practice into your life the rewards are very exciting, both physically and spiritually. As well as the Mei Quan branch classes you can attend fortnightly martial workshops and some very special annual international seminars. I highly recommend joining!
