I highly recommend Mei Quan Tai Chi. The class (I attend in Muswell Hill) is one of the highlights of my week. It is relaxing and invigorating, suitable for all levels and as challenging as you want it to be. There is never any pressure to overstretch yourself. For the ambitious, there are great pathways from short form to long form, sabre form, martial applications, fan work, and so on. For a more meditative approach, there are also Qi Gong classes. I began in October 2021 and was well looked after as a beginner. Matthew is an inspirational teacher, and several assistants are always floating around, offering individual advice and feedback and answering any questions. The weekly newsletter and community website are full of useful info and extra insights, and there are always school-wide events and offers, including in-person and online workshops (some of them free) and merchandise.

I have been attending Mei Quan classes at Brixton for a few years now and would thorougly recommentd them if you are thinking about trying out Qi Gong or Tai Chi. The material is always interesting and varied and the teacher is very good at pitching the classes to all levels so everybody can feel welcome regardless of previous experience (but there is also room for an extra challenge if you are up for one!). The community and atmosphere at the class is also very welcoming.

Really nice class, Matt is a great teacher, lots of positive energy, very chilled out. The students are all very welcoming and friendly, a lot of them have been there many years which goes to show what a good class it is. Tai Chi is great for the body and soul, flexibility, strength, balance, mindfulness and let’s not forget FUN!

I've been attending classes of Mei Quan Tai Chi in Brixton for the past four years. Of course, there has been the pandemic that meant the use of Zoom classes, but I've consistently been attending. I had little experience of Tai Chi prior to coming to the classes, and little understanding of what the 'form' was or what was really expected, so I was an absolute beginner. My experience has been entirely positive. I feel my understanding of Tai Chi, in its many aspects, has progressed well. I'm supported in class by the assistants as well as by Matt. And all this contributes to what I can only describe as overall well being on my part. The four years are about to become five, and I've signed up for a double class from this term. Love it.
