I came to try-out tai chi at this club nearly a decade ago and I'm still coming (most) weeks. It's a convenient place for me to come, being just a couple of minutes down the road from Balham tube/rail/bus station. There's a mix of people with different levels of experience. The teacher and his assistants do a great job of gradually building the skills of newer students while continuing to stretch the abilities of old lags like me. The fact that the class managed to carry on running over zoom, during lockdown periods really helped many of us during that period. Being back face-to-face means not only that we get to move around more freely but we get to have a chin-wag in the mid-session tea-break!

I begun with the beginner classes a few months ago with the idea of just testing Qi and Tai to decide which of the two I was going to stick to (if any) but... ...found that the atmosphere was cool, people is super friendly with a calmed spirit, teacher is very personable and the excercises are really helping me on my mindfulness journey and also improving my mobility, posture and breathing (apart of giving me extra awareness of my energies and getting out of class soft like a baby, ready for a really relaxed and restful sleep, always feeling amazing the next day), so ended up keeping the enrollement on both classes, and loving it!! Also is pretty near the tube if you live outside Balham. You cannot go wrong with this one, I totally recommend!

Love this class, it has a very friendly atmosphere and not at all intimidating for a beginner, like some other tai chi classes. A convenient location in Balham, two tube stations within easy walking distance, overground and lots of bus stops, so easy to get. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to try tai chi or qi gong for the first time.

I have attended Tai Chi classes here for two years, and absolutely love it. It helps me with so many aspects of my life, and has given me much more than I expected- particularly self-empowerment & group synchronicity. Give it a try.

Great class. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and suitable for absolute beginners. The evening starts with a qi gong session, which is sometimes called 'mediation in motion'. It is very simple to follow, a great way to relax and recharge after a hectic day. Learning tai chi itself can sometimes be confusing to start with, but after a while things start clicking into place and you start to reap the rewards. Derek and his teaching assisstants are all very patient, and beginners material is taught in bite-size pieces. Later on you get to learn more advanced material and uncover deeper layers of tai chi. I have been attending this class for many years and have benefitted greatly. Highly recommended.
