The screaming and whaling sounds are haunting. God knows what those poor patients are having done to them . Avoid the NHS if you are mentally ill , these places are just playgrounds for sick twisted monsters in uniform.

Be very careful of what you're told by anyone here, and get a second opinion, possibly privately, it'll be worth it in the long run. After much of my life struggling and managing depression and anxiety with therapy, and trying to find an answer in some way, I had an assessment for ADHD with Dr Susannah Whitwell at the Maudsley hospital 8 years ago, the result was supposedly negative. The handling of the assessment was shocking, taking time off work for appointments, but then they were cancelled multiple times, with any follow-up help being removed. After struggling on for many years, only 6% of GPs having any training in this, so their help and understanding were zero. My wife encouraged me to go privately for a second opinion, and the consultant psychiatrist for adult ADHD diagnosed me with severe ADHD, medication aside the diagnosis was a massive relief and allowed me to appreciate and understand things I didn't know. I understand Dr Sunsannah Whitwell also works for The Effra Clinic, I would recommend steering clear of here also. From Dr Russel Barkley, a clinical psychologist who is a clinical professor of psychiatry and one of the foremost voices in ADHD - Compared to other killers from a public health standpoint untreated ADHD is bad - 20 cigarettes a day - 6.5 years Diabetes/ obesity - 2 years Elevated blood cholesterol - 9 months ADHD is worse than the top 5 killers combined, and that's after you take into account anyone who is at higher risk for accidental injury and suicide. ADHD averagely shortens someone's life by - 13 years ⅔’rds of ADHD people die 21 years younger than average - However, once you get diagnosed and find the right help, life can only get better and quite often much better. Compared to other neurological conditions it's the most treatable with the most amount of medications. Low quality, mostly African staff with minimal empathy. A hospital that treats those in crisis with a punishing undertone. This hospital will be found out, like many other abusers. It may just take time.

There are obviously very experienced and knowledgeable people working here but sadly the waiting times for treatment, especially for eating disorder treatment are just outrageously too long causing serious damage to people's lives. I know this is largely down to government funding (or lack of) but this is a really serious issue. Furthermore, people are made to feel like they aren't sick enough to get help which just feeds the ED more. One feels they really ought to actually be dead before they can get help. Waiting 12months plus is not ok. When struggling through an hour seems like a year, a year seems a lifetime. And a lifetime not worth living.

Awful experience here. Horrid. These people ruin your life. Truly sinister how they treat people. Abuse of power. Quackery practised in the 21st century.
