We just had a really lovely weekend at Mason's. Our first visit and we'll be back. It is such a beautiful setting in an enchanting Yorkshire village. Our yurt overlooking the river had everything we needed to make our stay easy and very comfortable - a fire pit as well as a log burner added to the excitement. Our children loved the chance to cycle around the site with their friends and play by the river. The facilities were always clean, staff very friendly and we loved the 'Coffee and Bread Shed' - with really good coffee and delicious croissants. Enjoyed a very good meal at the Craven Arms on the Sunday too. See you soon!

This campsite had been on my list since visiting the area a few months ago. It's a premium price but you get a great location, close to the river and pubs. Easy access to walking trails to Burnsall etc. A few folk had rented fire pits which looked great. WiFi serves most of the site which is a bonus. Onsite shop and cafe is really useful. The coffee really was excellent. Highly recommended.

Nearby activities: The craven Arms is a 5 min walk and well worth the visit (and for dinner) Restrooms: Clean and in good order. There may have been hot water but I never found it.

The location’s wonderful – right on the River Wharfe with great walking direct from the site, and great pubs with delicious food only minutes away. The staff on the Friday were lovely. So why the low score? We arrived on a Thursday having booked several weeks in advance. Email check-in info said arrive between 3 and 6, and we got there before 4 – to find the reception/shop unstaffed and unlocked. After checking round the site it became obvious that there were no staff there. Now early October is low season, but when you have paid £165 a night – plus extras including a booking fee on their own website – it’s not unreasonable to expect to be shown to your accommodation. The “late arrival” info box didn’t help at all so we had to play a game of ‘guess the yurt’ – not knowing if anyone else was staying in one of them – and picked one that looked prepared as it had the site rules folder left out on the bench. We unpacked and made up the bed – pretty wrought iron but not a great mattress – laid the fire ready for later, and left for our table booked at the local pub not knowing if we would come back to find we’d picked the wrong yurt. A very warm welcome at the Craven Arms and a lovely meal later, the campsite had gained a very few tents but it was around 10am the next day before there were any staff around. Our booking had included a breakfast hamper which of course we hadn’t received and had wanted for that day, spoiling our plans for a decadent birthday brunch with a bottle of bubbly before a gentle walk. The morning maintenance staff were empathetic, and the reception staff who arrived for the afternoon in particular was a credit to the place – but no one could explain the lack of staff or info the previous day and lack of breakfast, and without the aid of time travel it was destined to be a disappointing stay. If you want to be by the river in Appletreewick, it’s the place to go. If you want glamping – and we did, having pitched our tent on numerous occasions on other sites in the previous months – there’s probably much better choices around. We were advised at checkout to try emailing in about these issues, and indeed replied to a ‘how was it’ email with the tale above. Yet to receive any reply, so sadly posting this review.
