Not listening when I was going with pain ending in a state 2 colon cancer. Messing my daughter’s referral for more than 6 months. I needed urgent medication due to a bowel blockage made me wait for 10 days to get my prescription

The doctors are excellent once you get to see them but they appear overwhelmed. The administration side can be quite unreliable, verging on the negligent at times, and (thinking of one male receptionist who on hearing his voice I would just put the phone down and call again hoping for someone else) sometimes downright rude and obstructive. My experience is of a practice on the defensive and unable to cope with the patient load on its books (listen to their recorded message when you call up!). I have had to chase constantly for tests to be booked, to get test results etc. I never feel entirely sure that they have a handle on on-going problems. The big question is, with the funding crisis in the NHS, is it better anywhere else?

I have been registered with the Marylebone Health Centre for 13 years now. They have given my family and me constantly excellent service throughout this period. This goes for the whole team, from reception to the doctors - and the phlebotomist is really good too. No one likes a blood test, but she makes it easy. My recent bout of illness switched from run-of-the-mill to acute very quickly and they responded equally quickly to get me admitted to hospital. I’ve found the telephone consultations very helpful, but when I’ve needed to see a doctor face-to-face that’s always been easy too. I’m so very grateful for their help and support over the years but particularly during my recent illness, which would have turned out very differently had they not been on the ball and willing to put in extra hours to ensure I received the best possible service. Definitely worth a five star rating.

The text message from my GP Practice told me to attend the Centre at “17a Marylebone Road” I walked up and down Marylebone Road for 25 minutes, trying to find 17a , of which there is not one iota of evidence. Finally Ihappened to glance at the tarpaulin fence of a huge building-site surrounding St Marylebone Parish Church, which doesn’t seem to own a Street Number. On the tarpaulin was a sign placed by the builders, smaller than my iPad screen which said “Marylebone HCC” with a tiny arrow apparently beckoning one into the building-site. I then plunged into a maze of wooden tunnels, populated by builders and their equipment, wandering about until a builder directed me to an open cargo-lift which I descended to find, deep under the Church: Marylebone Health Centre. The Receptionist told me that, as I was 12 minutes late for my appointment, I was classed as “Missed Appointment”. Returning a week later, I found that even the building-site entrance to the Centre is now closed. There is no access from Marylebone Road. A very small sign at ground level states “Access to the Health Centre is now through Marylebone Gardens, without giving any indication of how to get to that road. When I finally saw a physiotherapist she remarked “I’m worried that the Patient ahead of you missed her appointment”. I said: “ That’s probably because Patients are told to come to 17a Marylebone Road, which is not currently visible from Marylebone Road.” “Oh” she replied dismissively, “it’s the GP’s job to give Patients the right joining instructions!”
