I recently attempted to purchase my second Rolex from Martin and Co and this was the experience. After calling ahead a day previous to my visit, I was advised to come into the dealer to discuss a registration of interest for a Rolex GMT. I was advised on the phone that they weren't taking any further interest on specific references - but not the one I enquired about. I travelled 45 minutes from Bristol, paid to park and headed over - expecting to talk watches, I was hoping to meet a new member of the team to keep in touch with regarding pieces. It would have been great to see a few pieces, try on the exhibition watch of the exact reference I was interested in, and get a coffee after 45 minutes in the car. Instead, I was greeted at the door as if I'd interrupted a meeting, walked to a desk and the chat was abrupt, followed with a laughable 5-6 year expected turnaround time for the watch, (two-tone "Rootbeer" GMT) and essentially made to feel stupid for even asking. The exact reference was behind the woman advising me, I wasn't asked my name, whether I was interested in anything else, offered a coffee and told they can take my details but it was essentially pointless. I left after quite literally 3 minutes, back to the car and a 45 minute drive back to Bristol feeling pretty stupid. This was going to be my 5th new Rolex, of which I still own 4. I'm well aware of waits on these watches. There's a way in which to soften this wait time for a customer and make the experience a memorable one. Martin and Co don't seem to care for it.
