I bought a secondhand mamod model and it runs like brand new, these models clearly show a high build quality if there lasting decades. Brilliant models but I wish they had a wider range or some drive models. Overall a great company and amazed the steam engine designed in the 1930s are still being made today in even better quality. Keep up the good work mamod (even if you prices are a little bit high, but oh well)

Whilst the name Mamod has been well known for quality in the UK for over 80 years it seems that the recent change in ownership has now seen the end of this history. Having purchased a model railway engine recently, which was over £700, I was surprised and disappointed by the build quality, the lack of quality control, the lack of any safety checks and the total lack of compassion from the new company owner. On arrival the engine wouldn't heat up and wouldn't create any steam. I followed the maintenance guidance and various online forums but couldn't get any progress. I contacted Mamod support and having followed all of their guidance found the gas cylinder was leaking. This could have ended up causing an explosion if I had packed this away inside the house with the gas leaking. I was asked to return the cylinder for checking and after paying to return it, the repaired cylinder was returned. The engine still failed to create steam and eventually the whole engine was returned. Mamod eventually emailed to state that they had found a blocked jet, which I should have cleaned, so this was my fault. It's brand new so how is this my fault? The engine arrived back and does now create steam, however now it's leaking steam from the cylinders inlet and they've bent the back end of the chassis. Overall, Mamod used to be a great British product. Its a shame but clearly this is no longer the case.

Have a traction engine was impossible to get any help from owner david concerning that item. Was stupid and bought second engine, the steam roller kit. Fire box was ill fitting and the screws stripped. The forward reverse lever knob fell off and was again impossible to get any help from david. Mamod quality has gone down hill from the original family that owned it.
