My 14 year old son has just completed his grade 5 electric guitar exam, having swapped at grade 3 from classical Spanish guitar to electric rock. Whilst being guided by the rock school syllabus for the exams, James always has time to talk about rock in general, often with them comparing bands they listen to, and when not working towards an exam, James is happy to be guided by Will and the pieces he would like to play. At the moment there is some Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Led Zeppelin going on ...

My son started working with MTFM at primary school, and enjoyed James' teaching so much that we continued when he left for secondary. The teaching is responsive, imaginative and thorough, and my son was awarded a distinction in his guitar exam this summer. I thoroughly recommend!

James is passionate about what he does, and it was reflected through each lesson I had. No matter what skill set you'd start with, James had the time to wait, be very patient and advised thoroughly on ways to improve technique and skill. Through my lessons I've managed to develop my abilities to play songs which I've dreamed of playing from artists such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnsons. The education received also allowed for me to understand and appreciate other music genres further such as Jazz. James was more than happy to direct and explain these theories and practices. Aside from teaching, James was very helpful and assisted with setting up a new guitar which I'd bought. Also provided great advice to equipment, setting up pedals and rigs including maintaining my guitars. For anyone dedicated to learning a new hobby or developing their current skills and technique on the guitar. I would definitely recommend using James.

James is an excellent teacher and we would recommend him highly. We have two daughters and they are as different as chalk and cheese, James is able to adapt his teaching styles to meet both my daughters’ needs. Both of them learning in a way that they are comfortable with. The home tutoring service that James provides brings many benefits including the ability to hear your child’s skill and confidence build.

My son has been having guitar lessons for nearly two years. James has tailored his approach in order to suit my son and help him continue to enjoy playing a range of different pieces from both traditional early learning guitar pieces to pieces which are currently in the charts. James is an amazing guitarist with a gentle approach and I have been really pleased with the progress that my son has made. Having lessons at home makes it so easy and James has been very reliable. Highly recommended.

James is a fantastic teacher and a very nice guy. He's patient with new learners and thoughtful in picking music that the children (& often the parents!) will enjoy. Our son has grown in confidence since starting lessons with James, and even practices without (much!) nudging. We fully recommend him.

James has been teaching my teenage son for about two years and has helped him improve greatly. He encouraged him to take his first grade exam which was successful and he is now working towards the second. It's a great help that we can have lessons at a convenient time after school at home.
