We purchased a 2 years old Kona EV in November. Sales process with Tom was fine. Car fine for 2 months then middle of January it was completely dead. AA called and jump started. We took it in to get it checked over. 40 point check, everything green so we assumed it was fixed. A week later the same thing. We went to start it and nothing. AA man came, jump started, we took it in, this time they changed the 12V battery and gave it the all OK. A week later exactly the same thing yet again. AA man came jump started it and followed us down to Hyundai to say that something in the car was draining the 12V battery. Hyundai said they needed to keep it in to diagnose the problem. That was now 12 days ago. We have had no proactive communication. I rang up twice last week to be told no update. In the meantime we have a courtesy car - a much smaller mini. I have laid out the whole story to Hyundai Macclesfield by email but still they haven't contacted me. How many stars would you give this service? Update on 28-2-23. Simon the service manager has contacted me to let me know they have had to order in a piece of equipment to diagnose the problem. Let's hope there is some progress. Update 5-3-23. Got the car back on 2-3-23 and fine since. Had a really good open discussion with Simon and Chris about what they had done and why, to go through the full story from theirs and our perspectives. Hyundai suggested a new battery monitoring sensor needed to be ordered which it seems is a known occasional fault with the Kona. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Update 5-5-23. Oh dear!! Car was fine until 9th April then same problem recurred. Flat battery, car won't start. AA jump start. The car has been at Holdcroft now for over 3 weeks but zero progress identifying the problem between themselves and Hyundai(UK) technical. They cannot reproduce the problem but there clearly is a problem as it has now happened 4 times in 4 months. I'm not sure whether the 1 star is for the KonaEV we have, Holdcroft or Hyundai(UK). Perhaps it is for the whole experience that we paid a lot of money for a car that is a dud that no-one seems able to or wants to sort out. Shame really as we like the car when it starts. Pretty useless though if it's pot luck if it starts or not.
