The staff are friendly and always helpful and the building nice to be in. I have noticed that the range of books seems to be geting smaller though which is not good for a library, why, council cuts?

This is an example of everything that is wrong with modern public libraries. It is excellent as a room for storing books for loan, for children to play and for people to be trained to use computers. Unfortunately, all of these things take place in one huge space, making it completely useless for study — which ought to be its primary function. Neither staff nor customers take any trouble to speak quietly. When I was there, the staff were clattering about with something (some large metal blinds, perhaps). The work tables are either right by the doors, library desk and returns machines, or else next to the children’s area. Why oh why did they not divide this space into separate rooms, so that noisy activities would not disturb people trying to study? The fact is, study is not a purpose of this place. It’s a terrible shame.
