Had an awful experience with Luscombe Suzuki and their sales department. A lesson in how not to treat people that says a lot about their attitude to doing business. I phoned them around 11am one morning recently to view a used car they were selling that I’d seen on the internet. Spoke with a receptionist and agreed to view it at 1pm that day – she also took my email address and phone number. She said they’d arrange for the car to be ready. Got an email soon after from a salesman confirming he’d be showing me the car. Set off to the appointment before midday. Got a call in the car whilst driving to the appointment from the same salesman, who confirmed that I was on my way and the car was ready to be viewed. He answered some of my questions on the phone and we ended the call by saying ‘see you soon’. So far so good. Arrived at the dealership bang on time. On entering the showroom, I was met by the same salesman who told me that someone else had walked into the showroom in the past 30 minutes, asked to buy the car and they had sold it to them! After a minute or so of sheer disbelief, I said ‘whoa you can’t do that to people’. His reply was ‘Our policy is, first come first served’. He then brought a more senior salesman over who, in a quite surly way, told me the car was sold and that was that. I asked to speak with Robin Luscombe but was told he wasn’t there. The next day I emailed him detailing what had happened. His response? Not even the courtesy of a reply. Three weeks later and still no word. What way to treat people!
