A real castle, full of doors and small corridors. We got lost a couple of times, but there were always friendly staff around to help. Library bar has the nicest G&Ts (love the bramble and the rhubarb & ginger ones). Skip the very expensive 'special' cocktails there. Dinner was very good. We had a special offer so paid just £100 for two people including wine, which was a decent price. Good selection of very tasty dishes. Excellent service again. All in all an excellent experience and we would be very happy to go back.

If your going to or near Durham you absolutely should consider staying here. Our room was truly unique, small but functional, up a narrow circular staircase which might be an issue if you have a lot of luggage, but they have people to help you. Our meal was excellent and not badly priced. Felt like a royal for the night, lol

Myself and my husband have been to Lumley castle many times and every time we have been extremely impressed. We had our wedding here, and it went without a hitch. Afternoon tea is a must here, in gorgeous surroundings. We have stayed in lots of the rooms - king James Suite is incredible. I have never before seen a bed I’ve had to climb steps to get into the bed until that suite!! We have stayed at the top of the castle where the toilet is hidden the wardrobe. It was really quirky. The courtyard rooms aren’t quite as luxurious as inside the castle itself, it still very in keeping, clean and tidy. The Escape Room was brilliant. We had such fun.
