This statue (actually more of a bust) stands in tribute to Joseph Lister, 1st Baron Lister. His legacy was to advance the field of surgery by promoting antiseptic surgery. In doing so, he made surgery much safer for patients by reducing post-operative infections. The statue has a bust of Lister in portrait pose, standing on a plinth. At the front of the plinth are the figures of a woman and a boy. The boy is holding a garland of flowers and the woman is pointing to Lister with her right hand.
