I have been practising at LYS for almost five years now and it is a wonderful place for beginners and experienced practioners alike. Janice, who runs the studio, and her team of teachers ensure that whatever level you are at the teaching and guidance is appropriate. The studio teaches Sivananda yoga a form of hatha yoga. The typical class starts with breathing exercises, a warm up sequence then a series of 12 asanas or postures. These become more challenging as your practice progresses. A great way to start is either at one of the drop in classes or, as I did, do the beginners course which originally ran over ten classes and I believe has now been shorten to six. Look out for the very chilled Hungarian Puli, Frieda, which once graced the cover of Time Out and Pearl the cat.

I almost don't want to tell you about this place, in case it gets too popular, but this is a wonderful place to yoga. After moving to London four years ago, I really struggled to find a place that did 'my type of yoga' (i.e. technical, focus on breathing, not trying to cater for the get fit crowd). I've now been going for years, and have really enjoyed the LYS experience. Peter and Janice Kate, are really lovely, take time to explain the what's and why's, they're not pretentious like some places can be, and manage to strike a balance of furthering the improvers, and helping those who need more support. Can't recommend them highly enough.
