We have have visited LGI A&E three times so far this year - referred by our GP, local health centre and today by NHS111. Each time we have been dealt with in a polite and friendly manner by all staff - from Emergency Reception, to nurses, porters, doctors and consultants. Today was probably the longest visit because my husband required a number of blood tests which took a while to come back but they were necessary for a full picture. The doctor, Shaun, was very thorough, listened to and answered all our questions and worries, discussed my husband’s diagnosis with a senior colleague and they both came to outline the results and treatment. Thank you all

If you are American with already low expectations for health care in an ER, set them even lower and then dig a hole to get even lower before you come here. When I tell you I had to BEG for a basic mono test for my ill friend that had ALL of the classic symptoms, I mean, I had to BEG. We were instead given, “well WHY would you want to know if you have mono” and “are you a health care professional” and my favorite: “if they said it’s a general infection (NOT SPECIFIED), it’s a general infection (WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN)” Day prior, the doctor at the same a&e didn’t touch her, only took vitals, and then diagnosed her with said general infection before prescribing her antibiotics for a condition not even remotely explained to her. She felt so ill. When I brought her in today, I had to be her voice as she was too sick to speak up and ask for what she needed (which I believed was a basic monospot test). I was time after time disregarded for mentioning a mono test and instead the doctor continued to diagnose her with A THROAT INFECTION WITH GASTRITIS. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SUSPECT THAT IN A YOUNG PATIENT WITH ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS FOR MONO. Blows my mind. When I finally managed to get them to take her blood, the test came back positive (big surprise). The doctor, bless him, should focus on improving his people skills and listening to those who suffer, especially those who would be otherwise healthy. The blatant disregard for her treatment and recovery time (one of the most basic worldwide ideas with mono) is dangerous. With a ruptured spleen and inflamed liver, a lot of damage can be done. This was a very clear and basic illness right under their nose that they chose to ignore. I feel sorry for those that have suffered for the same reasons. Go somewhere else. A wait is worth it. This isn’t healthcare. These are sloppy guesses.

I went to A&E with difficulty breathing from how swollen my tonsils were, they were incredible from the moment I walked in, I was really unwell but they did everything to make me feel safe and welcome, the doctor Matthew batten was absolutely amazing with me and did a lot of tests to get to the root of the problem, nothing was too much to ask, thank you to him and the A&E staff for making me feel comfortable throughout the experience, can’t thank you all enough!!

Went in for a really minor injury - broken big toe. I felt a bit silly but the NHS website advised going to A&E if it was the big toe. I looked up online previously that quietest times for A&E was between 7-9am so we went about 8am. Receptionists were lovely - I apologised for taking up their time with something seemingly trivial but they reassured me that was what they were there for. After about 10mins wait I was assessed by Afzar (or Aftar?) who sent me for xray and said he would see me up at minor injuries afterwards. I sat down and was called in for xray after another 10 mins. Walked down to minor injuries and there was Afzar with my xray. I had broken my toe so they strapped it up and gave me a funky flat shoe to wear as well as some healing advice. All in all my husband and I were in there for an hour at most. It was the same when I went back in April 2022 for a similar issue (kickboxing injuries). Me and my husband usually go in with a bag of snacks, a book and something to play with to keep us busy knowing there's a chance we could be hours. But both times we went around 8am on a Sunday so I recommend this time if it's not an emergency. The staff are always fantastic at LGI A&E whenever we go for either myself or my son. Can't thank them enough for their excellent care.
