Extremely rude woman behind the counter. Didn’t even acknowledge us or say hello. Asked a question and got a filthy look and a rude response. Ended up not buying anything and walking out. How people think they can run a business with that attitude is beyond me! Won’t be spending my money in there.

My experience with Haxby Bakehouse is rather complicated. If you want good sourdough bread, then you cannot go wrong here. If you want a limited selection of deli items, you cannot go wrong. If you want good bread, go no father. However, there are a few things I don't like. Their pain au chocolat are always burnt. If you ask them about it, they will tell you that this is how they do it in Paris, that Pain Au Chocolat should be a deep brown colour. But their pain au chocolat are burned. I have been a pastry chef for 6 years. I attended Cordon Bleu's Patisserie course and know a lot about pastries and desserts. The French, as Haxby Bakery say, always bake their bread and pastries darker than we do in the UK, and this is 100% amazing. They have more flavour and better texture. However, the pain au Chocolat herr are regularly black, and therefore burned. I LOVE Haxby Bakehouse, but they need to understand when to take the PaC out of the oven. Apart from that, their bread is PHENOMENAL- 5 STARS WITHOUT A DOUBT. But their pastries leave me wanting. Please do not take this review as a warning not to go there. If you're reading this and are wondering whether or not you should go there and give them your money, I 100% recommend going there and buying some sourdough and some amazing-quality deli-products, including their figs. But just get on the eye out for baked goods that have not been baked in the correct way (i.e pain au chocolates that are burned). Otherwise, I LOVE this place. Some of the best sourdough in the area BY FAR. ALSO, IF YOU EVER GO INTO HAXBY BAKEHOUSE, ASK THEM TO RE-INTRPDUCE AND MAKE SWEDISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD AGAIN. Their Sweidsh Friendship Bread is the best bread I've ever had in my entire life of exploring different quisines, including HAUTE CUISINE. it is the best bread in the world. PLEASE PESTER THEM UNTIL THEY DO JT AGAIN
