I visited the cathedral for solitary prayer at a time when I was struggling immensely. I burst into tears whilst in prayer and cried until my nose began to run. I asked a member of staff for a tissue, to which he responded "this isn't a shop". It seemed as though this man couldn't wait to get rid of me. If one cannot turn to the church even for a tissue in one's time of distress these days then we all might as well declare the Catholic church to be spiritually dead.

Magnificent arts & crafts building is home to a vibrant and diverse congregation. The cathedral is renowned for its choirs: it has the best choral singing of any catholic cathedral in the UK (except, perhaps, Westminster).
