Never thought I’d be saying this or even putting a review up on this, but seems like I have to. It was a Uni that I dreamt of going, always said at home, I wanna go Leeds for University, to sort of get out from my home city Bradford. Didn’t know that Headingley had this in treat for me. Only found out I was going to the Headingley Campus last minute after checking the site, my heart was set on the City Campus, still, I had high hopes for this one too, my course was going to be here so had no choice of my own. Right from start to finish, it was a useless Applicant day let me tell you My reviews are lenghty but I’ll get to the points with this one. Upon entering, none of the Student Ambassadors greeted me, bearing in my mind that this is a new place to me and I’m on my own, I would definitely make people feel welcome. Went to the Reception to “check in”, an Indian lady there was simply confused and I could not understand her one bit, hence why the white lady next to her had to intervene. Was then told to “go straight down and take a left” and continue walking, so I did. Got to two lovely girls who were the only ones I relied on in this entire day. Security guy was nice aswell, they all spoke to me. After waiting for 15 minutes, my Course group finally came and I followed them into the Workshop to try out a taster session of my course. Here is where the bad bits start and only get worse. The course leader did not make any efforts to say “why don’t you all get to know each other for 5 minutes and we’ll begin” instead, we were given instructions off a PowerPoint and told to work off it. No one spoke to me, at all. It was like some sort of punishment that I never asked for. I had to ask another Student Ambasador for help throughout the entire session thanks to the cheap management here. After that finished, we were told that its Lunch time and we’ll be heading down. Got there, had to wait outside the area for 15 minutes and then entered, again slow and not organized. Once entering, a student of the Uni was handing out plates, me being Muslim had to ask if the food is Halal, surely they must have considered that for different religious people, but nope, mistaken. She asked a lady there who happily said “oh no no the food is not halal sorreh”. I mean seriously? You arranged all of this without even thinking of Muslims and other religious people attending, like is this a joke? Took myself out of that room and when the queue died down a bit, asked the same girl where I could get Halal food, she took me to the Beckett Kitchen. She showed me the Menu and I got some Fried Chicken and Chips, went to the counter and was told “£4.35”. Paid it, sat down to eat. Again, no one is speaking to me, no friendly faces, nothing, almost like a prison. Chicken was ok, chips were horrendous. Wanted a drink so got myself Dr Pepper and went to the counter only imagining I was about to get ripped off here too, suprisingly, it was “free today”. Good, as that is probably the only decent thing about that day. Had no clue where I was going or what I was doing after this so exited the canteen and went back to the girls I spoke to earlier, shared my rubbish day with them and were equally as shocked as me. Rang my Dad to come pick me up at this point as there was nothing to do and as if my group actually cared of my presence, even if died at the spot, they would’ve continued the day without me. Saw some people from my group earlier, the girls told me if I want to join as it was a Campus Tour, I thought I’ll go as it will be a while waiting for him to come. Another bad bit here, they showed me the Pubs, again, never asked if there is anyone here Muslim, could have easily shown me the Prayer room I believe they have there but didn’t, instead they full on offended my beliefs. Got home and just fell asleep, didn’t even want to think of the nightmare that unfolded Sorry for the essay but yeah, that was my experience with Leeds Beckett University, HEADINGLEY, for the City, I’ve only heard good things about them, but this was a depressing, sad Uni lemme say.
