Great hour out on the river! Everyone was lovely. Took the time to explain the best route, and didn't feel rushed at all. very reasonably priced and no need for an assessment etc like other places so you can just pull up and kayak! Will definitely be back.

My teenage son and I hired a 2 man canoe for the day in early August 2022 and went upriver along the Lea to Stanstead Lock, with a pub lunch at the Rye House in the middle. Took us about five and a half hours. It was a great day in fine summer weather, we had a wonderful time paddling past all the house boats and watching the river wildlife, human and otherwise. The staff at the hire place were super nice and helpful and gave us great guidance about how to use the boat and get it out of the water and back in again either side of each lock (canoes are not permitted in the locks). This is called 'portage' doncherknow! The canoes are easy to paddle even for beginners but quite heavy - unlike kayaks they need 2 reasonably fit men to carry over each lock. There's a great cafe next to the hire place which sells excellent ice creams.

It was a lot of fun but I think our life jackets were way too small and/or not adjusted properly. I could slide mine 10cm up before it stopped and at bottom position it was too short to fit the seat.
