4 stars for location. But - to ‘run out’ of 1 of 2 steaks for the lunch service is a tad sad. No market fish. Bearnaise sauce lacking vinegar, warm butter with the bread, over cooked Halibut and kind but inattentive service suggests a refresh is in order. Taps in the bathrooms broken, and an ambience reminiscent of 1982 (perhaps that’s the idea) alongside the poor bistro conversion to bar hints at a lack of investment or strategy. This place deserves a bit more thought and is recoverable but for now it’s a thumbs down from me.

I wanted a full-body wine and ordered one of the least expensive bottles, a Gigondas at GBP 67. The sommelier told me I shouldn’t choose this bottle because it is a « light red wine », which for anyone knows Gigondas, can only be received as either ignorance and will to make you pay more, or lie and will to make you pay more. The white table cloth was heavily stained after the sommelier served the wine, and I would have a few other anecdotes about the poor service quality from male waiters. Food was Ok. I am French, I love French cuisine, but I find it frustrating that some restaurants use the French cuisine’s reputation to charge a lot for food that isn’t great and service that is below acceptable.
