Very poor experience as a graduate; it's nice campus and good facilities, however support as an undergraduate was atrocious both during studies (2008-2011) and after graduation. I am very glad I undertook MSc study elsewhere at an ex-polytechnic with a lower reputation. At Lancaster they are research focussed and undergraduates come bottom of the list, once you have graduated they don't want to know beyond begging you for donations. I was unemployed for a long time and got zero assistance / advice / guidance from the university. I had a far better experience during and after study undertaking an MSc at Portsmouth University. They helped me to actually learn skills employers wanted and helped me land a professional role in my study field - far better than Lancaster! Also, many academics are extremely classist at Lancaster; if you are working class, without a double-barrelled name, don't go skiing and don't speak with a plum in your mouth, expect to be treated poorly. (in the LEC anyway). One notable class; a lecturer joined in with privileged privately educated students mocking myself and other comprehensive school educated students for not knowing advanced mathematics - because we went to state schools that stick only to the national curriculum. This sort of behaviour was endemic on my course across the three years I studied there. Other examples included mocking regional accents encouraged by faculty, and faculty stating we could not attend field trips without extremely expensive high-end outdoor gear (which only wealthy students with rich parents can afford) and mocked the 'cheap' gear that poor students like myself had and threatened to remove us from field trips over this. Homophobia during labs and classes was also ignored and tolerated by faculty, some faculty inferred / implied that Environmental Science is for 'straight' people and that LGBT people would struggle in the sector- something that after 10 years of working in the industry since graduating I know to be utter b*****cks.
