Don’t go there until you are fully confident with all their driving routes and this is possible if you live there. No satnav given, they describe the trip with their mouth and you might not quickly understand what they are trying to say and can also serve as a distraction. This is 2023, most people navigate with a map and plan their journey before setting off to drive, they need to improve on this. Routes should be given to testers for some minutes to plan before moving off only if your goal is to fail them. The driving centre is next to a big roundabout, no time to drive straight to ease your nervousness so you need to be prepared to turn to a busy road in a minute.

I took exam on Saturday early morning 15 April. 23. Roads look quite in weekends. There was a strong sunrising which made more challenging to see easily the signs. I failed with a major mistake in a junction. However, I was delighted with the examiner, Lora. She was very professional, kind and calm making me feel comfortable from the very beginning. Her instructions and guidance were clear, fully respecting my communication disadvantage as a foreigner. In the end she was so explanatory, just like a superb teacher.

After a ban back in 2017 (covid made the whole process longer to reach this stage) I had to sit the extended Test which was 65 to 70 minutes on the 27/9/22 and passed with 2 minors , my instructor done a lot of work getting me out of bad habits + being an active thinking driver rather than being on auto pilot like most other drivers on the road, & when I went for the test I was nervous at first like most people would be, but the examiner was very kind, professional & made me feel relaxed after about 15/20 minutes .. I followed all my instructors teachings & drove to DVSA standard, I done my best to show the examiner that I was driving safely the way they are looking for and he was satisfied that I was a good driver, I had 15 years driving previous driving experience which helped me as well but I worked hard with my instructor to take away all my bad habits be a good driver. So as long as your instructor teaches you to drive to DVSA standards, you should pass . Some people might get unlucky where an unusual incident happens on your test that cause a fail but if you drive in a safe manor and think about all the ‘what if’ scenarios, you should be able deal with any surprising issues on your test safely . Always drive in a safe manor that is safe for the road conditions and hazards & keep to a safe speed within the speed limit . One thing that examiner is looking for is a safe drive, if you do that you’re almost certainly going to pass. If your on a bad country road that’s 60 & 45/50 feels safer for all the bends then driving a little slower is better, the speed limit isn’t a target and if you’re in a busy 20 or 30 zone, depending on all the hazards and room on the road will dictate the safest speed to be driving at.. You need to drive safely and make progress with safety always in mind, don’t be hesitant but don’t take risks and rush junctions and roundabouts. But anyways the examiner done a very good job, on the independent driving phase there were some signs either block by trees or covered in moss , and the examiner would be more specific if a road sign was in bad condition and hard to read. Had a nice chat with him too but kept my attention on the road for any developing hazards & used my mirrors frequently. There was one point through the test where I approached a zebra crossing but there was a van on each side blocking the view of any pedestrians & so I drove slower & explained this to the examiner as well. Sometimes if you explain why your doing something it shows the examiner that you’re Driving safely and thinking about hazards. The most important thing is to get lessons with a proper driving instructor, If you try to rent a car from Arnold Clark and only get taught by family members, there’s a high chance you’ll fail, Taking extra driving lessons with a family member can be beneficial as long as you’re taking proper lessons with a driving instructor as well, being taught how to drive properly. I’ve wrote this long review adding in important advice on the best way to pass. If you drive to DVSA standard then you’ll almost certainly pass & remember, if you’re not test ready then you can cancel and book another test later on giving you more time to be test ready .
