We had the pleasure of staying in the Farriers Loft for a week recently. What a fantastic place, very well equipped with everything you need for every eventuality. Very comfortable in beautiful surroundings with only the odd squirrel, rabbit or duck passing by. Our dog loved it & there was even a water bowl waiting for him when we arrived. We would recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful break with lovely walks on the doorstep & hope to return in the foreseeable future 👍

TLDR Beautiful and inspiring location, tastefully decorated and comfortable - a few issues with cleanliness, services and safety that need to be addressed. Beautiful old hall and grounds with 12th century church right next door. We visited for a four day break over the festive holidays and enjoyed wandering around the grounds and to the fabulous Black Horse Inn just a mile away. We stayed in the Lakeside Apartment with our two children. It's a lovely, roomy, comfortable and nicely decorated apartment that's relatively well equipped, save for the lack of dishwasher and airer to dry clothes for those on a longer or winter stay. Just on that comfort point, although the beds in the master suite are two singles fitted together, the mattress and topper made it amongst the comfiest beds I've ever slept on (and I've slept on quite a few!). Our contact was quick to respond to our queries and accomodating with a late checkout. The apartment wasn't quite as clean as we would've liked, certainly considering the price. We found crisps on the carpet in the living room; crockery hadn't been cleaned properly and the bedroom window was dirty with mould. You have to consider it's a very old property with old sash windows and we visited in the middle of winter so these things do happen and occur quickly, but given where the property is positioned on the market I'd expect a more thorough clean. There are other niggles, including no coasters for drinks and no welcome mat to wipe muddy feet - the propery shows the signs of wear that these simple omissions lead to. More fundamentally, as the hot water is fed from the old hall, it takes a (very) long time to get hot (you can run the bath or shower for 2-3 minutes before it starts to get warm) and seems to be temperamental - we couldn't get any hot water in the kitchen during our entire stay and had to boil the kettle to wash pots. Not a terrible hastle but equally not something I expect when paying £250/night. Further on services, the internet is too slow (~2mbps) for television streaming without lag and does not reach the extremeties of the apartment - perhaps to be expected but worth noting for those with children. The driveway and path leading to the apartment are unlit and very dark and the lights in the entrance porch additionally weren't working. Not a problem for us as we had a torch with us, but unsuitable for some. More worryingly, one of the plug sockets in the master bedroom is hanging off and unsafe. We also had an issue with an aggressive dog on the grounds, luckily nobody was hurt but I hate to think what might have happened had my wife and I not stood between the dog and our children. The owner, who appeared to be staying on the property, had no recall and wasn't equipped with a lead. The next day the dog was off the lead by the lake so we felt unable to let our children go outside and explore alone. While I was aware the property is dog-friendly and the proprietor cannot be held accountable for other people's animals, I would like to see signs asking people to keep dogs on leads. I hope this feedback will help set others expectations and help the owners to make some improvements that would make this an outstanding holiday let.
