All was well initially with my motorhome purchase from Kent Kampers and I had no reason not to pay a £1000 "non refundable" deposit for it. This changed radically when during the process I received a phone call from them telling me the airbag ECU was faulty. I was advised by a friend in the motor trade that this could be due to the motorhome having had a crash. The trust between Kent Kampers and myself was completely broken when I requested an RAC check. They refused point blank to allow this as “we do not allow RAC checks on our motorhomes”. Loud alarm bells started ringing and I suggested this might put at risk my purchase with them. They responded that I would lose my £1000 “non refundable” deposit if I did so. Eventually they said that I could bring my own mechanic which was not what I had quite reasonably requested. Later they called back and said they would after all agree to an RAC check. Still wary of their attitude I paid £19 for an online HPI vehicle check for which I needed three more pieces of information. I called them but they were very evasive and reluctant to release the information and the alarm bells began to ring again. Eventually after a robust conversation they released the information to me. It was now obvious to me that this was not a firm I should be dealing with. Two days later I called them and explained that as the trust between us had been broken by them I would not continue with the purchase. I offered to pay a generous £400 in good faith for the four tyres they had purchased for the motorhome and requested a return of the remaining £600 of my deposit. This was met with “the £1000 deposit is non refundable and we have done other work on the motorhome”. However any other work done on the motorhome would have to have been done for a new buyer anyway. With regards to the £1000 "non refundable" deposit I would be very careful if this is something you cannot afford to lose. Friends and acquaintances to whom I have related my treatment to have been horrified and appalled. You have been warned. Caveat Emptor. Addendum. The information below is part of Karen Miller's review on her Kent Kampers experience and relates to my review of them. "Someone has left a review saying that they weren’t be able to do a HPI check as Kent kampers wouldn’t give him the details he needed to do a HPI check. This is not correct: We would like to say that if you wanted to do a HPI check on the campervan before buying it, all you need is the number plate. Which is what we done on RAC Website £15. You don’t need any other information." PS For the avoidance of doubt. In response I did not say they would not give me the details but that they were reluctant to do so. On the website that I was using to do an HPI check the number plate information was "NOT" sufficient and further information was required to proceed to complete the check. Brian Parsons.
