Kate is friendly. You get a whistle stop tour of the boat. The tech. H&S. A brief guide to how to drive and you are unleashed upon the Oxford Canal. We had a 75 monster 'Louisa' and didn't really know what we were doing, which is the canal hire way, but you pick it up as you go along. Plenty of bangs, knocks and scrapes along but most are in the same boat, literally, though a few of canal folk are up their own backside, the majority are a helpful bunch. Would certainly recommend.

We hired 'Robert' one of their larger boats recently for a few days. Excellent experience all round from the welcome on arrival to the facilities on board the boat. Two double cabins and two singles, two bathrooms and a good size kitchen/living area. Nice space up front for sitting out too. Great price too including fuel, water etc.. They will give instruction if you haven't done it before. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic holiday with Kate boats ,hand over spot on ,boat clean and all the things you need .Had one acassion to call out because of a tyre rapped round the prop , 2 technicians came out and removed it well trained for the problem , would recommend Kateboats for accompany that cares for its customers 110% satisfied

We hired a canal boat August Bank Holiday for 10 people 70ft long we had a wonderful time,the barge was equipped with everything we needed,the beds were comfortable, the tuition was spot on and we felt comfortable to be let loose ,highly recommend

Second time we have been with Kate's Boats and just as delighted. Friendly check in, boat very comfortable and clean and we had a great time doing the Warwickshire Ring. Cooking utensils were inadequate. If you are cooking for 4 take a large pan!

Just back from a week cruising onboard Rebecca. Complete beginners and loved it. Ideal size for the two of us, not too long and had everything we needed (minus a missing frying pan, but just used one of the saucepans instead). Andrew was great at explaining everything on the sendout plus the android tablet was always onboard if we forgot anything. Only improvement would be an omnimax tv aerial as it was fiddly turning the loop to get the direction correct for the tv at night, but we had some dvds and data signal to stream video too. Just gone on the canal plan website and retraced our whole route and clocked up 90 miles heading partly up the Ashby, back into the outskirts of Coventry and back to the boatyard. Hardly spent any money once onboard, just a bit of food shopping and found some nice quiet moorings every night. Will be booking again and trying out routes in other directions!!

Billed as 5* could only really give 3 stars, beds were hella uncomfortable and no first aid kit aboard lead to a terrible first night when our little boy burnt his fingers on a bulb and we were stuck on the canal. Water tank was not filled, luckily we checked as we were passing a water tap or could have run out. Everything was very tired and underside of sofa cushions moldy, tv/ dvd player did not work but we did have a good weekend. Would be great to have a map and some suggested routes but we figured it out.
