The first step in diagnosing and treating a child's mental health condition is assessment. Our team of child psychiatrists will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the child's symptoms and history to determine the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. Treatment may include therapy, medication management, or a combination of both. We work closely with parents and caregivers to develop a personalized treatment plan that meets the unique needs of each child.

I cannot say how happy my wife and I are that Jo was the clinician we chose. For my entire life I had struggled to understand who I was and why the world was different to me than to those around me. Her professionalism, tenacity, attention to detail and compassion go beyond words. The fact I left with the 'label' of Autism is not a bad thing. It has enabled me to become who I really am and that with an understanding of what I need to do to improve the quality of not just my life but that of my wife also. Ultimately, it has turned my life up the right way, and for that I cannot find the right words other than thank you.

I have recently completed an adult autism (ASC) assessment with Dr Jo Coombs and Harriet Hunter at Join Psychology. It was a very positive experience. I spent a lot of time researching autism assessment options before choosing Join Psychology. I am aware that autism in women is often underdiagnosed, and the fact that clinicians at Join Psychology have specific expertise in this area gave me confidence. I also appreciated that Join Psychology are explicitly LGBTQ+ affirmative. Jo and Harriet were extremely friendly, supportive, and reassuring. Throughout the process, emphasis was placed on affirmative ways of understanding autism while also appreciating difficulties that can arise if you are a neurodivergent person. The process was also extremely thorough and comprehensive, which gives me confidence in the diagnostic outcome. I was impressed with the final report, which was detailed, helpful and constructive in terms of speaking to the diagnostic criteria while also foregrounding strengths related to autism. I felt that the language used in the report (and throughout our meetings) was supportive and validating even when talking about more difficult experiences. Overall, I am extremely grateful to have worked with Jo and Harriet and can highly recommend Join Psychology.

I came to Jo for an ASD assessment as I saw she had experience with females (I feared not being listened to elsewhere, as from the outside I can appear to have no struggles). She was very thorough and the process was quick compared to current NHS wait times in this area. I walked away knowing a lot more about myself and the follow up report was very detailed. Jo has also offered to answer any questions in future I may have and has given me guidance off the back of my diagnosis, which is also very helpful. Thank you for all of your help.

I would recommend Jo as she is very easy to talk to. She made the whole process as relaxed as possible. Good detail of the location and process was provided so you know what to expect. The questions are very interesting and you remember things that you never noticed before. The final report is very detailed. Thank you Jo.

Jo was my supervisor for a period of 2 years and has provided ad hoc supervision opportunities since, related to my professional development as an aspiring Clinical Psychologist. Jo ensured that I had consistent, protected time for supervision in line with requirements set out for an individual of my level. While Jo is an incredibly experienced and skilled practitioner, she is also warm, kind, and empathetic which created a safe, collaborative and supportive supervision environment. Jo continually encouraged my reflective capacity and appropriately challenged me to expand my thinking when considering my caseload and working environment. Jo also regularly provided additional material, research and formulation examples to support and develop my practice. In addition, during the time in which I was supervised by Jo, the COVID-19 pandemic began and amongst all the uncertainty of the time, Jo ensured as little impact on my supervision as possible, quickly transitioning to remote format and maintaining consistent communication throughout. I feel that Jo’s input as a supervisor has shaped me as a clinician and led me to not only to gain a place on the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology, but also to become the practitioner I am today. I am so grateful to Jo for all she has done for me over the years I have known her and could not recommend her more highly.

My daughter and I had a lovely experience working with Jo (and her colleague Harriet) for an ASD assessment. Jo was very patient and kind, extremely knowledgeable, very vigilant with the diagnostic process, super responsive to questions and concerns, and made us feel comfortable and looked after through the whole experience. The report she has provided is extremely thorough and will go a long way towards helping her in the future. I would strongly recommend seeking help from Join Psychology.
