John has been teaching me piano for just over a year now. I decided to learn to play just after I retired, making John's task all the harder. He has, however, been patient and encouraging. Moreover, he has combined the necessary study of theory and adherence to the demands of the programme he uses with an appreciation of the music I like, setting me projects that are likely to ensure I practise than I might otherwise. I have developed skills in jazz, folk and classical music since working with John. Musical theory, which I have always found particularly difficult to grasp, finally makes sense and has become much more enjoyable; this is because John teaches it in a way that is understandable and relevant. John has a lifetime of experience as a pianist and guitarist and is an accomplished performer in a variety of musical genres. I have developed skills in jazz, folk and classical music since working with him. John’s teaching is excellent, he has enormous patience, and each lesson is bespoke, thoughtfully prepared, and flexible enough to accomodate my individual needs as a learner. Lessons are calm whilst being highly focused, they reflect my musical interests and are appropriately suited to my ability. I end each lesson feeling that I have achieved something. John is dedicated, encouraging and professional, a superb music teacher - highly recommended.
