On 21/05/2023 at around 20:30-21:00 we had dinner at Jun Li. I never saw a man taking an order with so much passive aggressiveness. I was with my mother. We picked two dishes and the waiter said: "You need to pick more" in a firm tone. We were confused and he explained that dishes did not come with rice or noodles, so we had to pick more dishes. We were looking at the prices of the more simple noodles, the one with just sprouts, and it was 13 pounds. We assumed it would be plenty for both as it must be a big portion. Then the waiter replied in a firm tone again: "Not enough, you need to pick 2, here you *need* to pick 2. See those clients over there." While pointing to the customers We were talking to him that it will probably too much food for us but he insisted and pressured us for us picking one more dish. So we pick the mushroom rice just to have some food. He talked in a very rushed way, very stressful. What if I did not want to pick 2 more dishes? Ordering for the sake of ordering is just not right. Then we decided to pick one cola to share. And he asked in a way like if we were being dumb: "1 cola? Just... 1 cola?". It's hard to convey how he talked with words. It's the little details in a person speech and face expressions that give away their true sentiment. I felt he was treating us like if we were dumb. When the food arrived, we noticed right away that it was too much for what we wanted. Either one rice portion or noodles would serve us plenty. Speaking of food, it was tasty, and well seasoned. I had the shredded pork with sweet and sour garlic chilli sauce. Be aware that most dishes are spicy. The have a scale that goes from 0 to 3 in terms of spicy levels. This dish I had was at 1 level of spicy, and I could feel it pretty good. Not a complaint just to be aware. The mushroom rice, very well seasoned with great texture. The sprouts noodles also great. After the meal, we had half of the rice left, and more than half of noodles. The waiter came with plastic containers for takeaway, because there's a lot of food left, and said: "Don't worry, we won't charge these" like he was doing us giant favour. While paying the bill, he did not give the receipt right away, I had to ask for it. Overall the service was horrible, I never felt so attacked in a meal. We were not asking to kiss our feet, we just wanted the waiter to communicate more calmly and nicely. He could've suggested/recommended picking 2 more dishes instead of *forcing* us to pick. Terrible service. Terrible food. No flavour, very bland. I’m not surprised by the low start rating they have!! Wish we never came here. They charge £2 for take away containers. Staff are very very rude. No manners and come off a bit racist. AVOID!!!!

The dish with 3 peppers on menu are not spicy at all, not by a Chinese standard but a Danish one. Before we finished, a stuff came and asked have you finished which was super rude. Before we answered, his hand was already on the edge of our pot trying to remove it. I said no so he went off without saying sorry. Can’t believe the two of us spent 88 pounds here and got this kind of service. Will never be back.

I have been here a few times now, having discovered it a few years back and it continues to impress me every time with its fuss-free, generous, spicy Sichuan dishes. The classic beef and black bean chow mein was lovely. Tender pieces of beef with perfectly-cooked noodles and the distinctively earthy black bean sauce gave it that extra level of savory flavour. The prawns with asparagus were delicately seasoned and had a very pleasant texture. Overly hard and chewy prawns can be a recurring problem at some restaurants but not here! This was also my first time trying pig trotters. The ones served here had simply been served with some vegetables. They were very nice but I would have preferred them to have been slightly softer. While they had a rich flavour, as the trotters consisted mainly of fat and gelatine, they became slightly boring after a while. But nethertheless, it was worth the try. The duck hotpot was delightful. Plenty of tender meat was served with chilli oil and chillis. The Sichuan pepper added that distinctive mouth-numbing sensation and the extra kick you really want when it comes to Sichuan cuisine! Try to bring as many people as you can to make the most out of the vast, tempting menu. If you're looking for a good, simple and affordable meal, this is the place for you. But it's not for those who can't handle chilli! Vegetarian options: There are some vegetarian dishes on the menu.
