I joined JASMA, at the beginning of this year to get back into martial arts and to learn Tai Chi for meditative purposes, core strength and flexibility. I was immediately made to feel welcome, included within the class and other members. The way it is taught in Battersea is ideal for me. The repetitive nature of learning and practicing the forms is thorough. I have noticed a increase in core strength and stability through the calm and controlled Tai Chi classes. If you have never practiced martial arts before or are experienced in other disciplines from earlier in your life this is a great school to join The pace of teaching is good. It is friendly and disciplined at the same time.

I've been training with Coach Jef Sutherland and JASMA for several years now. Started with Shaolin which is an amazing art that focuses both the body and mind, then adding more recently the Bagua and Xing Yi Quan 'internal' styles, which focus more on breathing and efficiency of movement, which has great all-round life benefits. Throughout these styles, Coach Jef's knowledge, motivation and teaching experience has been inspirational, as has the welcoming JASMA family atmosphere. Heartily recommended.

I recommend the classes taught at this school. I have been training both Tai Chi and Shaolin for some years. I was initially nervous about training thinking that martial arts weren't for 'people like me' but Jef and the other teachers were very welcoming and encouraging. I feel I have gained a lot from these classes and am looking forward to learning more in the future. If you are interested in martial arts but unsure whether its for you or not I would recommend giving these classes a go.

I love being part of JASMA. I originally joined just to train Wing Chun as i had trained this style previously, but soon started training the Shaolin style and felt myself drawn to look into the other styles that are taught as well. I have improved as a person and a martial artist since training with JASMA and I still continue to improve now. All of the people that I train with are a delight to be around and some of the hardest working people I have ever met. If you have an interest in Chinese martial arts, I couldn't think of anywhere better to start your journey.

Since I started training at JASMA in 2006, I have learned lots about traditional, Chinese Martial Arts. It's fascinating how the ideas and theories are still relevant today. Jef teaches the physical, philosophical and modern-day applications in a fun and engaging way. He is a very inspiring teacher with decades of martial arts experience behind him. This really comes through in the lessons, especially the quality and depth of his knowledge. I have also been lucky enough to travel around the world with team JASMA and had some very unique experiences. I highly recommend the classes.

I started at Jasma looking to train Chinese martial arts, and have gained so much more, including confidence, self defence principles, clarity of mind and other life skills. The health and well-being benefits are a big part of class, and I’ve never been in better shape. Coach Jef cultivates a unique, supportive ethos inspired by traditional teachings, and the training crew is diverse and friendly. I’m forever learning new skills, and look forward to many more years.

I was a member of Jef’s class at the Natural History Museum a few years ago. He was patient, engaging and truly inspiring, and I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. I still practice T’ai Chi every morning with my young daughter, so the appeal has been enduring, as have the health benefits. If you are thinking about joining these classes, don’t think twice about it. You will love it!

JASMA is fantastic! I've recently joined the school and train Xingyiquan, Baguazhang and Qigong with Master Jef Sutherland at JASMA, Battersea. I can't recommend the school enough. Teaching is both theory and practice meaning my experience has been rich, inspiring and hugely motivational. I've felt benefits to my health - particularly balance, flexibility and strength - and my self confidence, upping my wellbeing in everyday life. I feel challenged in class but never over-stretched and with Coach's deep knowledge of his martial arts lineage, I know what's being taught is genuine, so I can just relax, train hard and enjoy the benefits! My only frustration is I can't commit to training other styles at JASMA, all in good time...
