Future Customers Be Aware!! The below is a message written by my partner Charlotte in relation to the purchase of a wedding dress from Jane Bouvis’ shop. I went into Jane’s shop in Notting Hill in May 2019 and spent an hour trying on dresses and I found one that I absolutely loved. She has some lovely vintage, lace dresses. I asked Jane to put it to one side for me and paid her a £700 deposit to do this in June 2019. Jane said that I should come in for two fittings – the first being 4 months before my wedding date in July 2020. However, with the Covid situation it was not possible for Jane to fulfil this service of fitting my dress due to social contact rules. The dress still remains untouched and unaltered in the shop since I put the deposit down on it. I got in touch with Jane to ask for a partial refund of my deposit, owing to the fact that unforeseen circumstances due to Covid have moved my wedding plans and that she cannot fulfil her end of the contract by providing the fittings to my dress. Jane repeatedly refused to consider any extenuating circumstances or show any empathy towards the current Covid situation. Jane has continuously pointed to her one line policy that simply states no refunds and has made no approach to even make a slight amend to return part of the deposit. Despite the fact that the dress has not been touched and is completely resalable. Further to this, Jane has bombarded me with emails at every opportunity, in an attempt to prove that wedding dress fittings are not part of the service. Despite the fact that the dress was left in the shop, so that I would come for a fitting at a later date. I live in Bristol, so if I was just purchasing a dress I would have paid and left with that dress when I first tried it on. I am a front line NHS Nurse, who has been working flat out during this pandemic. Being bombarded by emails is the last thing I need. To compound the issue even further, as we continued to disagree I mentioned that I would be taking the case to the small claims court. At which point, Jane instructed a Solicitor, who's firm charges £205p/h, to effectively argue on her behalf with me. Bearing in mind our dispute only totals a part refund of a £700 sum. This solicitor has threatened to counterclaim against me for the full cost of the dress if I take the case to litigation. I have attached the letter from the Solicitor below. I am left completely exhausted and appalled at Jane’s complete lack of empathy, especially given the fact we are in a global pandemic. This is obviously not a monetary issue for Jane, due to her seeking out costly legal assistance. I am not writing this review about the dresses that Jane sells. I am writing this review so that future customers are aware of Jane’s conduct and how she carries out her business.
