I approached James as I have been learning the guitar on/off on my own for a couple years and wasn't satisfied with the progress that I made on my on. I really liked how James took the time to listen and understand what I wanted to achieve from taking lessons. What makes James an amazing teacher is his non-judgmental/encouraging approach and his ability to take a step back to let you explore your interests. Lessons are led by the student's interest but build upon the previous lessons. James is able to break down musical concepts in a way that anyone can understand. He has really helped me develop a solid foundation as a musician through developing my ear and my understanding of music as a whole.

James is a phenomenal musician and educator. His love of music and dedication to his instrument is inspiring, and he has left a huge impact on my playing. Over the three years that I took lessons with him, he was always open and receptive to my changing interests, but never lost sight of helping me achieve my long-term goals. Had I not moved out of London, I would definitely still be studying with James - I truly think he is one of the best around. I would recommend his lessons to anyone looking to get into the guitar, piano, jazz or just music in general.

His guitar lessons have been led by our son’s interests but underpinned with lots of rhythm and sight reading too- a great encouraging mix to keep interest and excitement going. He’s really flexible and understanding of what you want to learn, and has helped me a lot with my understanding of music both on and off the instrument by not only focusing on what happens on the instrument but also with ear training to better hear what’s going on in the music. He also happens to be a really nice guy!
