It seems the trainees have to be social workers, nurses, psychologists, etc., who already work with children and families, and none of them have to have personal therapy, an essential learning tool for any therapy encounter to avoid projection and foster objectivity. In my experience as an adult client they ignore childhood trauma and make incorrect assumptions about families as they are already institutionalized in narrow-minded trainings which give them a lot of power. You are therefore likely to get a top-down approach. How the right and wrong people are filtered out is not clear at all, since there are already many questionable social workers milling about with strange ideologies waiting for yet another opportunity to add another string to their bow and act out on their guinea pigs.

I attended The Institute of Family Therapy where I was seeking help in seeing my daughter as the mother was not allowing contact as is the way in high conflict divorce proceedings. Unfortunately my experience of The Institute of Family Therapy is entirely negative they offered no help in maintaining contact with my daughter and recommended contact should be decreased in order to appease the mother. Needless to say contact has now been extinguished and The Institute of Family Therapy have initiated court proceedings to recover their fees. I would say on no account have anything to do with what I can only conclude are dangerous amateurs in the area of child contact cases, so if you wish to see your child avoid these people.
