My provenance with Independent Age or Royal United Kingdom Beneficiary Association as it is Registered and originally founded [IA] is that I worked for 16 years as a Volunteer Visitor. I supported many elderly over the years helping them in many ways. Including reminding them they ALL received money for free heating in the winter and there was never a need to be cold. Pre the Russian invasion I received £200 & it heated my barn from November until February, £50 a month for 4 months. I am now 80 and receive £1000, which is many months of FREE heating. I obviously pay my benefit into to my account with my energy provider and am in credit and never turn my heating off.. Yesterday I was with a group of my age, we were all CELEBRATING having our heating paid for the winter. I came home and opened mail from IA in which a Helpline Advisor named as Liam Bowery immorally claimed elderly were ”sitting in a freezing flat” and spending “their State Pension on energy” And asking me to send money!! NO mention of the £1000 or at least £900 that all pensioners receive and asking me to donate. IA must not lie by putting out totally false claims. Heating a flat with £1000 or £900 will last far longer than in my barn and nobody lives on just a State Pension as all sorts of other benefits kick in. When I worked for IA the staff at HQ and I would have ensured the elderly were using their £220-300 and getting all their benefits. NOT asking other 80 year olds to subside them! The Chief Executives Stuart Rogers and Julia Neuberger along with the Trustees should be held to account as it is asking for money on false pretences. IA should be CELEBRATING the cash for Free Heating and reminding the elderly as I did for 16 years. I have phoned to speak to Liam Bowery who signed the letter and the Chief Executives as this is misleading the public and must stop; but of course, they can not be put through! Neither was my call returned. SHAME on you Independent Age after such an amazing history since 1846.

Awful. Disorganised and inefficient. Spend more on advertising and fundraising than they do on service provision.

A man came to the house asking for support for this charity which helps people with dementia. I said I could make a donation but I couldn't do a regular payment. I offered him £10 but he said he wasn't allowed to take cash. He said it would have to be a bank to bank transaction and could I make the payment £10.83. I agreed. I have just received a letter saying I have agreed to a recurring monthly payment. He left without giving me any paperwork which I thought was odd. I'll be cancelling this first thing tomorrow.

The booklets from Independant age have been invaluable for elderly friends I sent fir them for They are easy to follow written in simple terms ( not gov paper terms) and give good practical and legal advice we all need to know whether we are older or families with older relatives needing help and support I honestly think everyone should have copies once they reach pensionable age Just knowing there’s support out there and your rights to benefit and care is everyone’s right to understand and know Thanks independent age you’re doing an amazing job

I have had the same experience as last reviewer, re intrusive chuggers claiming to be from this charity. I shall be phoning the head office tomorrow to complain, since the suspicious call was after office hours. The 3 individuals who called at my property did the text book distract of one call at front door while another walked down the drive to try not be seen. Needless to say I have phoned police to alert of this concerning incident
