So I try and keep this brief - I was shopping around for some wood for a garden project when someone recommended port wood timber to me, as I’m not a tradesman some places can make you feel as if you do not belong there but from the minute I walked in I was made to feel relaxed and Tony the manager obviously realised I was new to all this - we talked about what I was doing and what I was looking for and he even suggested some cheaper options which doesn’t happen often I left wanting to discuss with my wife. After a few days I returned to order the decking I had seen they had , now this is where the service stood out compared to the rest - Tony explained he had fresh batch arriving that week so would call me soon as it was in , I ordered on the Monday and it had arrived on the Friday but as I was not ready to lay it Tony explained it wasn’t good practice to leave it out in the sun to long before fitting which I appreciated so asked to delay delivery until the following Tuesday and it was not a problem. Tuesday arrived and Stuart and Colin the delivery lads turned up with 70 lengths of 4.8m decking (a lot) I expected them to unload kerbside but no they asked me where it was going and when I said back garden via the inside of the house to my shock it wasn’t to much trouble at all they checked the route and cleaned there boots and they unloaded the decking in to the garden which on my own would have broken my back - then as they was unloading I realised they was checking the boards for any damaged one as they had bought extra with them to swap out for me (wow what service ) the lads finished unloading they then gave me a plastic sheet and told me to cover and protect wood until fitting again doing up and above. Few days later I was finishing up and ended up with one damaged board but as I also needed so extra anyway it wasn’t an issue so when I rang portwood timber to check if I was ok to bring the damaged one back again to my amazement they said they would collect it and bring me my additional decking aswell I hadn’t put the phone down and Stuart was pulling up outside my house - I can truly say this is not the sort of service I’ve experienced from any trade diy places (Travis Perkins take note ) To Tony and the team at portwood timber thank you 🙏 so much and I will definitely see you soon 5stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way Ps my decking is a amazing thank you

The bottom had dropped out of my very old kitchen draw, and I needed Baton’s for my new trellis. I took both into Portwood Timber, with a request for help. Tony Davies served me, what a star. Tony came up with a solution for my draw and taking pity on me, glued all the bits together ‘thank you so much’. Colin sorted out my batons whilst advising on other questions I had (all on a Friday afternoon). Super grateful to both for a speedy service and brilliant value *highly recommend☺️

Quality wood, quality staff and top notch advice. Friendly and helpful reliable and trustworthy. I would not go anywhere else in Stockport. I accidently left wood there they kept it for me for a month which was very kind as I thought I would have to pay again. Wish I had more DIY work to do so I could vist more often. Gave me great advice to create a plate rack. It is stunning.
