After a few years out, I got back into fly fishing this year and joined this club. The members are friendly and open with their advice, there are regular working parties to maintain the banks, keep casting gaps clear and for members to get together. But the main thing is the location and the population of brown trout. Both absolutely stunning.!! Don't let the bad reviews of disturbance put you off. Yes there are busy days when walkers and dogs can get a bit noisy, but there is an entire bank (1000 yards plus) that is pretty secure that they can't get into, if that bothers you. It's an absolutely magical place, when the trout (which average well over two pounds and fight hard) are rising and the sun is getting ready to set. I've caught on a variety of methods (nymphs, daddies, dry off the surface) and the brown trout and blues are absolutely gorgeous.

Wonderful spot, full of trout, friendly members. Spoiled by public access. I understand all have a right to enjoy the tranquil spot but allowing people with no knowledge of how to conduct themselves in the countryside to just have freedom of access is madness. When you have paid to fish and people are throwing sticks in for their do's right next to you?! I stopped one family group from demolishing a drystone wall to throw into the water.

A beautiful place and all the fishermen I spoke to were very friendly and helpful. The fish were of exceptional quality and fought really hard It is a bit of a hike from the car park so I would not weigh yourself down with to much fishing tackle but it is well worth the effort.

For £15 you will not find a nicer, more scenic and well stocked reservoir to fish. Fish that get stocked are all 1.5lb plus. Fished here for 2yrs solid, now a member, and can honestly say best money spent as a fly fisher. If new, don't forget to say hello to the odd member who will be dotted around as they will gladly give you advice on best spots to fish and what lure / fly to use.
