Mark is a brilliant communicator and teacher of singing. He inspires and enables whilst being technically brilliant himself. As a Speech and Language Therapist I also appreciate his depth of knowledge. Mark’s enthusiasm and kind manner is bringing out the best in my daughter who he is also teaching. She says that he has given her more confidence to sing in front of others, she never feels nervous in lessons and always finishes the lesson smiling.

My eleven year old son Caleb joined Mark’s Chichester Children’s choir, and I was struck by his warmth, enthusiasm and passion, and ability to communicate and draw together children of disparate ages and attention spans. I knew that I wanted Mark to teach Caleb privately, and I was so pleased when a Zoom slot became available. I know that he could not be in better hands. Mark respects and relates to Caleb as a complete individual, managing his little quirks, giving genuine praise and encouragement, but always moving him forward, presenting him with pieces ranging from musical theatre to classical arias, just at the right time to either engage him with some fun and role play, or challenge him to explore greater depths with his voice, and it has been a joy to discover these and work on them together between lessons, to hear his voice begin to find its way, and to see how rewarding Caleb finds this process of learning. Singing has revealed a strength of his dyslexic brain, in that it eagerly grasps Latin and Italian phrases by ear within music with surprising speed, relative to reading straight English on a page. Since beginning lessons, singing has leaked into other areas of learning, such as ballet; before I would have suspected a wandering attention, but now see it as his brain rejoicing in a newly-found strength, pairing modalities to strengthen memory for movement. Zoom works very well for singing (less so for ballet!) but after liberation in a post-Covid world the hour’s drive to Mark’s studio for face-to-face teaching will be well worth that journey. Mark’s impressive professional achievements and dedication to music and education speak for themselves, but not every professional can communicate and teach in a personable way - and enjoy it - with such energy and skill. Thank you Mark, especially for bringing Händel and Franck into our living room (and beyond - we sing everywhere)!
