I'm a regular visitor to Horseshoe lake, wandering around it and along the river Blackwater. There is a dog beach on the opposite side to the watersports centre, with graduated steps for you and pooch to reach the water, and a bench to sit on and contemplate life while looking across the water. If it has rained heavily, make sure you have waterproof shoes as there is one spot in particular that gets deep muddy puddles that traverse the footpath. At the end of your walk, visit the cafe for a cuppa and a slice of cake. Dog-friendliness: Lots of dogs at this site, and there's a dog beach for some fun swimming opportunities fir your 4 legged friend.

After driving to see a lake on the south end and finding out it’s private property upon arrival, we took this opportunity to visit some place else, so that we wouldn’t go back home ‘empty-handed’. We stumbled across Horseshoe Lake, and it was both luck and pure joy that we did. We almost caught the sunset, which was mesmerising to see both on the water and above it; the animals that we came across were all very friendly too! We took a walk around the lake (we didn’t have enough time for a whole ring), but down the clear road, there were little ‘off-roads’ that led to a spot by the lake. Which were these spots where you could see where you’ve reached, but also a moment of calmness and - though anyone could have reached it - it feels like it’s your tiny, little secret. At the milestone we reached by the end of our walk, there was a bench where you could rest (the one in the picture where the lady sits - my mom!), and simply let your eyes, mind and soul get lost and wander around you. It was eerie, and you were to have time only to yourself and your thoughts. I highly recommend paying this place a visit, getting a coffee (the shop was closed at the time, but I’m sure that it’ll be everything you’re missing and more), and enjoying the moment. Remember, don’t just see, live!
