Really lovely campsite looking over the beautiful lake Coniston. Perfect location for climbing Old Man of Coniston and as we were on bikes, the owner kindly offered to drive all our stuff to Coniston town to meet us back from our walk which saved us a bit of a cycle, which was really kind. Thanks Andrea! Highly recommend.

Disappointingly the National Trust has "taken the difficult decision to close the campsite." I despair at this once great organisation who can close such an amenity in a beautiful place; they really have lost sight of their objective.

Pros: Location is close enough to town, the hills and lake. Showers are excellent. Cons: smoke from multiple campsite fires over most of the evening and up till 00:30. Meant smoke blew over our camp area and all our gear smelled of smoke. Not good. There are very few flat areas to pitch a tent.

It's a good site , has the essentials needed, water shower toilets included in price. Staff friendly and helpful. Wood available for purchase. Coniston Village Close by for supplies and pubs. Only drawback is site is not very flat so even though site field is large the actual places to pitch on level ground is limited . Also water run off through field can mean some places boggy. But overall a good site
