I recently took a veteran De Dion Bouton Type BQ for diagnostic work due to an over heating problem. This was the specific problem I wanted addressing. The model was the first ever four cylinder mono-block engine ever designed. I should have started to have concerns due to the dismissive tone from the owner towards other specialist restorers in the South East before I even delivered my car. After eventually reviewing the car the cause was identified as the radiator core. This was my suspicion all along. He then proceeded to list every other fault with the car again with a dismissive tone, irrespective of the fact club associates of mine had completed significant parts of the restoration. I was presented with a four figure sum for this episode. What was really the most frustrating part was the lack of respect for the car. The radiator had been reassembled with the holding bolts and nuts to finger tight only. I luckily noticed this on the drive home (car was on trailer). The nuts had undone to the point that they would have been lost before I had returned home. This company may well be competent in other classics but I advise caution in allowing them to work on pre-war cars.
