An excellent introduction to winter mountaineering skills; learnt a number of techniques and a great chance to try out unfamiliar kit in real terrain. Simon made the most of the 4 days, working with the weather, including a winter summit of Ben Nevis which was a nice surprise. Would definitely recommend. 👍

Recently completed the 2 day winter skills course with our instructor, Si. Cracking couple of days spent in the glen Coe area learning all the essential skills and techniques needed to be able to operate safely in the hills in winter conditions. Si was very approachable and knowledgeable making it easier to ask my many questions. The pre course content was very useful and I found I was constantly learning and progressing over the course of the 2 days. overall i found the course very beneficial and left feeling a lot more confident about heading up into the mountains, especially when the temperature drops! Cheers Si, hopefully be back soon for an advanced scrambling course

Fantastic 2 day course In Glencoe. Si is very knowledgeable, learnt so much I'd never even have considered. Avalanche risk, cornices, cols, planning, how to use crampons, using an ice axe, importance of navigation, building a snow cave, using a bothy bag and so much more. Si is very safety conscious (does mountain rescue in his spare time) so really does know his stuff. Had a great couple of days out and Si was great company too. Good bants and some great anecdotes (some scary stuff!) So glad I've done this, really feel empowered to get out on my own now, just a bit more navigation to practice first. Cheers Si, Sam

I had very little, to know experience in winter mountaineering before doing the 4 days course with Highland Ascents. Highland Ascents has made me a wiser mountaineer to be able to go and enjoy and brave the weather, in fantastically beautiful Scotland (and beyond), in a much safer way than I could have imagined! Very professional and clear on instructions from start of booking enquiry to final debrief and farewell! And fun! :) thank you Si for a wonderful experience. ;)
