FAQ

What is your approach to psychoanalysis?

At Highgate Counselling Centre, we take a psychodynamic approach to psychoanalysis, which focuses on exploring the unconscious mind and past experiences to better understand present behaviors and emotions. We believe in creating a safe and supportive environment for our clients to explore their inner selves and work through any challenges they may be facing.

What experience and qualifications do your analysts have?

Our analysts are highly trained and experienced in the field of psychoanalysis. They have all completed rigorous academic and clinical training programs and hold advanced degrees in psychology or psychoanalysis. Additionally, many of our analysts have decades of experience working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and with a variety of presenting issues.

How long is each session and what is the cost?

Each session at Highgate Counselling Centre lasts 50 minutes and the cost varies depending on the experience level of the analyst. Our fees range from £70-£150 per session. We believe that psychoanalysis should be accessible to everyone, and we offer a sliding fee scale for those who may not be able to afford our regular fees.

Do you accept insurance or offer a sliding fee scale?

We do not currently accept insurance, but we do offer a sliding fee scale for clients who may not be able to afford our regular fees. Our goal is to make psychoanalysis accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

What is your availability for scheduling appointments?

We have flexible scheduling options to accommodate the busy lives of our clients. We offer daytime, evening, and weekend appointments, and we will work with each client to find a time that works best for them. Our goal is to make psychoanalysis as convenient and accessible as possible for our clients.

I recently completed a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling at HCC and found the experience very positive. The tuition is excellent, the course provides a great mix of robust theory and hands-on practice, and I found the training staff to be responsive when extra help or guidance was required. The organisation is professional but still retains a 'family' feel. Training to be a counsellor is a demanding process and HCC offers an environment with a very good balance of challenge and support.

I completed the Certificate and then the Diploma course following many years working in mental health. The lectures, seminars, workshops and experiential groups were relevant, well organised and delivered. HCC's staff were supportive at all times. The camaraderie between students created a friendly and constructive atmosphere and many of us still remain in touch.

I completed my diploma in psychodynamic counselling at Highgate and would recommend to students considering a career as a counsellor, lecturers are supportive and provide helpful feedback which helps personal development.

My experiences are historical -- no-one who was there then will be there now, I would imagine, since I received counselling from 1988 to 1990 (and was very pleased that it's still there). While the process didn't cure me (nothing ever will), I wouldn't be here, I think, without the care that was shown me.

I went for an initial consultation and was told it could take up to one month to be placed with a counsellor. After two months no one had even bothered to get back to me. Waste of time and money.
